What you need to know about original equipment manufacturer insurance (OEM) coverage.
If you are in an accident, you might need some new parts to repair your vehicle. Most insurance companies cover the cost of quality alternative parts when your vehicle is repaired. If you strongly prefer that parts from your vehicle’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM), then you need original parts replacement coverage or OEM coverage. With most auto insurance in MS and AL, OEM coverage will need to be added to your insurance policy.
How does OEM coverage work?
If you have a loss, comprehensive and collision coverages are used to repair or replace your vehicle’s damaged parts with new, original parts if they’re available. To be eligible to add OEM to your policy, you must have full coverage with comprehensive and collision coverage. This applies to auto, pickup or vans. This coverage does not apply to antique or classic cars , restored autos, motorhomes and trailers. Most companies require your car to be 10 years old or newer. Some companies will automatically remove the coverage once the vehicle turns 11 years old.
This is a coverage that most customers don’t think about until they have a claim.
