, took a 3,000-mile road trip with her two kids, Finley and Fletcher, across the US and into Canada. This trip not only changed her children’s lives, but hers as well and they started taking a trip every summer. They had caught the “travel bug”!
Kim’s friends started asking for advice for not only traveling, but traveling with kids. In February of 2019, Kim was selected to become apart of the Brownell Mentoring program which has helped her turn her passion of traveling with her boys into a career.
As she enters into her last month of the mentoring program, I was able to sit down and talk to her about life as a travel advisor!
What goes into planning a trip for your clients?
“There is so much psychology in travel. I take the time to really understand and get to know my clients in order to plan the perfect trip. I have worked on four Costa Rica trips for four different clients at the same time, but all four trips looked so different! When a client first contacts me we do what I like to call a ‘discover conversation.’ This allows me to build the ideal journey for them—I basically get to play match maker for my clients!”
What are your top 5 favorite places you’ve been? (in no particular order)
“Oh this is a hard one! I have loved every trip I’ve been on but I would have to say Cuba, UK—I love the UK!, Ireland, Switzerland, and Russia. Russia changed me.”
What does your travel bucket list look like?
“I like to travel based on events that I know will be going on that time of year. I want to go to the Grand Pre in Monaco, Providence when the lavender is in bloom, see the Great Migration, cross the Drake Passage in Antarctica, and I want to hit every continent before my 45th birthday.”
What advice do you have for people wanting to travel?
“Take the trip! Just take it! Find a really good travel advisor, even if you’re a DIY traveler, because the small fee you pay will save you so much time and money.”
I don’t know about you, but I have the ‘travel bug’ BAD after talking with Kim! Meridian is so lucky to have someone who is so talented and fervent about helping others have a trip they will be talking about for years to come.
“Time is more valuable than money. When you travel, you’re not only using your leisure time but also money and I take that very serious. I want my clients to have a seamless, perfect experience!”
