Whether you've been married for 10 years, are newlyweds, or are about to pop the question--make sure that ring is covered!
Last July, by husband and I went on a Cruise with two of our closest friends. While we were in Cozumel, had booked an excursion to snorkel and go to an aquatic beach park. As soon as we hoped off the Cruise ship, we were picked up by a catamaran and headed to snorkel! After snorkeling for about 30 minutes, the captain and his crew took us to a private beach to have lunch and relax until is was time to go back.
The private beach was wonderful! There where dozens of blow up slides, trampolines on the water, and even an obstacle course you could try (if you dared!). We were having such a fun time that the morning flew by and before we knew it, it was time to head back to the ship.
We hopped back on the catamaran and were heading to the cruise ship when my friend came up to me having a panic attack.
"What is wrong?!" I asked.
"I..I...I don't know where my wedding rings are!" She said frantically.
I thought she was going to be sick. For all we knew those cute, little fish had a yummy, shiny lunch! Being in the insurance business, the first thing I asked her was, "Do you have your rings covered on your insurance policy?" "No." she replied, "I just didn't think this would ever happen!"
We got back on the cruise ship and you could just tell her day was ruined. To try and cheer her up, we ate lunch and headed to the pool. While we were at the pool, a nice man overheard us talking about what had happened and says,
"I am sorry to intrude into your conversation, but I couldn't help but over hear that you lost your wedding ring?"
"Yes." my friend says sadly.
"My wife is sitting on that chair over there, why don't you go and tell her what happened? She might have something that belongs to you."
My friend and I just looked at this man in shock. At first we thought he was messing with us, which would not have been funny! But she got out of the pool and headed over to this man's wife. While they are talking, the lady reaches down into her beach bag and pulls out BOTH my friends engagement ring and wedding band! We couldn't believe it!
Turns out, while we were having such a fun time going down the water slides, my friends ring had slipped off. This lady and her husband happened to be in the water and she noticed something shiny on the end of the slide. She quickly swam over to the slide and grabbed the set of rings before they fell off into the ocean.
"I didn't want to turn them into the guys on the catamaran because I was afraid they would keep it for themselves! I just hoped and prayed that I would find the person who's rings these were. I knew they would be greatly missed!"
Y'all... I cannot even begin to tell you how lucky my friend is to have found her rings. If another second had passed, those rings would have been fish food!
Not everyone (especially me) has luck like that. So make sure you INSURE YOUR RINGS people!! It is so easy to add your engagement ring and wedding rings to you insurance policy. Whether you just bought your ring or have been married for years, it's never to late to insure them! Here's how:
1. Buy the ring and hold onto your receipt. Your insurance carrier may require the retail value of ring.
2. Call our office. We will help guide you through this process and help you choose the best policy and walk you through your options!
3. Get an appraisal. We will help you determine if this is needed. While a receipt may be all you need, if you no longer have your receipt or for more expensive jewelry, an appraisal may be needed. If the ring is an antique or family heirloom, and appraisal may be needed as well.
4. Schedule the ring(s) on your current policy or add it to a separate policy. When insuring your ring, we will quote adding it to your current homeowners policy or putting it on it's own floater policy. We will help you decide which option is best for you and most cost efficient.
That's it! Now you can relax and know that if you ever find yourself on a water slide in Cozumel and lose your rings--they're covered!
