Today’s blog is focused on the coverage for the contents in your boat. There are two types of contents coverage with boat insurance. There is Unattached Equipment Coverage and there is Personal Effects Coverage.
Unattached Equipment Coverage is protection for items that are used solely with the watercraft. Be sure to check your own policy, some come with 10% of the hull coverage amount automatically included. Meaning, if your boat is insured for $25,000, the policy includes $2,500 in coverage for items used only in the watercraft. Think about the items in your boat and determine if that is enough, or if more coverage is needed. This could include anchors, oars, water skis, wakeboards, GPS units, etc.
Personal Effects Coverage is protection for items that can be used from shore, without a watercraft. Often this is an optional coverage that isn’t already included in a boat insurance policy. Your personal effects could include clothing, scuba gear, fishing gear, or snorkeling equipment.
