February is a big month for Albree Florey and her husband Scotty Florey, owners of
World of Flowers & Gifts. Not only are they preparing for Valentine’s Day, their busiest day of the year, but will also be wrapping up their first official year of being business owners!
On March 1, 2019 Albree and Scotty became the new owners of World of Flowers. World of Flowers has been the home of where art and nature meet since 1979. “We stand by the vision our matriarchs had for this store and hope to continue to inspire people to look at flowers and arrangements the way God made them and intended them to be seen,” stated Albree.
This past Wednesday, I was able to sit down with Albree and discuss what she has learned over the past year as a business owner:
What is your favorite part about owning a business?
“I have the freedom to design. I love the creative process I have begun with my clients—when someone comes in a has no idea what they want, I take the time to learn their personality and what they like and don’t like. It’s the best feeling when I am able to ‘nail it’ and give them something they love.”
What are the challenges you’ve faced buying an established business?
“It’s an evolution. Change is hard! Proving yourself doesn’t happen overnight and having huge shoes to fill is a big responsibility. Instilling trust, good product, and a heart felt desire is very rewarding.”
What advice would you give someone looking to becoming a business owner?
“This business is my life. It is very hands on, very physical, and the needs of others come before my own. Without that commitment, success would be hard. There has to be a willingness there. You can’t buy a business and only be there three days a week, this is a seven day a week job!”
While Albree and I were talking, it was so evident how passionate she is for this business and Meridian. “It’s a ministry. We are with them in their best time and their worst times. We are all about community and giving back.” Thank you Albree and Scotty for continuing the World of Flowers legacy, giving to our community, and making our homes and events beautiful! Best wishes on year two from the Pearson and Company Insurance girls.
